Prosser Wine and Food fair
Last Saturday I went to the Prosser Wine and Food Fair. It is the largest outdoor wine festival in the state of Washington. About 3500 people attend every year and they come from far and wide. This was the 27th annual event. The entry fee is $20 in advance and $25 at the gate, for which you get a commemorative wineglass and four script tickets. This is a little steep as the minimum was two scripts for a 1 oz pour and some wineries were charging up to five scripts. Of course, you can purchase more script and most people do get more - lots more. The other side of the coin is that you do get access to over 30 quality wineries pouring in a small area and with the price of gas these days, the savings in time and fuel might just make up for the steep entry fee.
The first thing I did was head up to the bleachers to get an overview of the area and then went around to the various wineries to see what was being poured.
Here is the video.
While wandering around I smelled something cooking and followed my nose to the Picazo booth. Picazo is a new restaurant in Prosser which specializes in pairing local wines with great food. Chef Frank Magana was preparing a huge Paella al fresco and drawing quite a crowd.
After this interview, Frank very generously gave me a plate to sample. Delicious! Now I want to go back to Picazo and try the lamb with the Block 17 Syrah from Alexandria Nicole Cellars. (Frank told me off camera that Jarrod and Ali Boyle of ANC were instrumental in convincing him to open up his restaurant in Prosser. Bravo, guys!)
I also did interviews with Rich Marshall from Maryhill Winery and Linda from Airfield Estates, which I will post soon.
Cheers
Corky

Merry Christmas! Today was a very mellow day. There is a small group of us who can’t be with our immediate families this year for various reasons, so we decided to skip the hassle of cooking Christmas dinner, mostly to avoid the cleanup. The [...]

Another gorgeous day here. I headed out to climb all 2608 ft of Squaw Peak (recently renamed Piestewa Peak, for the sake of political correctness) , on the northern edge of Phoenix. Supposedly an easy climb to the top for panoramic views of [...]

I decided to have dinner at a Mexican restaurant called Abuelos. Abuelo means grandfather in Spanish. It is a chain, but not one we have in my neck of the woods and it came highly recommended to me by people who know food. After a tough [...]
